2012 Baseball Picks: Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres (Apr. 12)

The Diamondbacks are wrapping up a three-game series against San Diego, looking to get back on track after suffering their first loss of the season Wednesday.

Arizona scored 17 runs in its first three games against San Francisco’s top hurlers but the hitters have fallen victim to PETCO Park’s expansive dimensions and two solid performances from the Padres bullpen.

Tonight at 10 pm ET, the Diamondbacks will send Ian Kennedy to the mound in search of his second win and from what we saw against the Giants (Apr.6), Arizona deserves road fave recognition. Kennedy gave up three runs on nine hits through 6.2 innings and has had a lot of success against the Giants, but he’s owned the Padres, as well.

In a five-game win streak against San Diego, the right-hander has struck out 44 and walked five, posting a 1.82 ERA. Three starts against the Padres last season led to three wins with 27 K and just one free pass.

San Diego counters with Anthony Bass, who is starting in place of Dustin Moseley (shoulder). MLB odds for this game favor the D-Backs (-130) and they are 31-10 on the moneyline the past two years when favored between -125 and -175.

MLB Picks: The Padres are 9-21 as a home dog the past two years and baseball betting action is pushing the number on the favorite. Laying this kind of chalk early of the season can get a sports bettor in trouble but with Kennedy’s recent 12-5 record on the road, this shapes up like a good spot to take the risk.
